Scenarios and Approaches

Coaching is not a one-size-fits-all activity. Every course of coaching follows a different route decided upon by you, with activities and techiques tailored to your unique requirements.

As a guide, to help start a conversation about the way you would like it to go, here are some scenarios and approaches.

Business People Talking

Executive Leadership Performance Coaching

SCENARIO

Senior leaders find it can be lonely at the top and seldom want to reveal weaknesses in their own decision making and leadership. However, by calmly and confidentially examining your own team management skills, you can discover  insights that improve your own work wellbeing, and can often highlight aspects of your work persona that colleagues and direct reports find less than ideal, but would never dare tell you about.

DESIRED OUTCOME

Improved relationships lead to better communication and openness, for you and your team. Workplace morale improves: if the boss is happy, the team is happy. You may preempt the loss of valued people who could have been planning to move on.

APPROACH

We spend time analysing current performance, rating it honestly and fearlessly in critical areas. We tell the story of your leadership style to date. We create a watching brief for you to note things that go well or could be improved from week to week and discuss in session.

We reinforce strengths and practice techniques to address areas needing attention. We analyse progress and improve the techniques in a feedback loop.

Further sessions build on the progress and allow more techniques to be tried and analyses performed, if required.

Working Together

High-potential Employee Progression Coaching

SCENARIO

You are a valued team member, but something doesn't sit quite comfortably. It may be a perceived lack of progression options, interpersonal issues at work, imposter syndrome or just a feeling you want to be doing something different. Talking though these feelings in a relaxed but focussed course of coaching can help you cut down the noise of day to day stresses and hear the quiet inner voice that you need to listen to.

DESIRED OUTCOME

Clarity on the best way to make key decisions about your career and life. An honest and confidential appraisal of what you feel good at, your values, and what you think is holding you back. Confidence to address issues in a planned and reasoned way.

APPROACH

Early sessions will focus firstly on 'hot topics' that are of concern to you right now. We explore these issues as a priority and quickly find ways to minimise negative effects in the short term, to create space and time for you to explore further issues you want to address in the following sessions.

Once we have a roadmap of all the issues you feel you need help with, in later sessions we develop techniques for you to analyse, confront and overcome them, and measure the effect this has on your workplace wellbsing. This leads to a position where you can effectively coach yourself, with an ongoing monthly support check in session to refine your skills.

Small Business Owner Work/life Balance Coaching

SCENARIO

Running a small business often means that besides your relevant skills and experience, you also have to be a jack-of-all-trades, which we are rarely fully equipped for. Stresses can be many and varied, and with only a small team to help you, it all falls back on you. Coaching can help you identify what you want personally from your business, and what is stopping you achieving it. With so little time to do so much, it is vital to learn to use your time effectively and achieve a workable home/life balance. Far easier said than done...

DESIRED OUTCOME

The ability to clearly see what your daily priorities should be, how to maintain your mental health during (regular) crises, and a clear, honest knowledge of your skills and weaknesses and how that dictates your management style and effectiveness.

APPROACH

Initial sessions concentrate on immediate issues; typically small business owners don't make time for coaching until they are under serious pressure and need urgent assistance. Session agendas often need to be changed at short notice as the unexpected happens, but a pattern usually emerges and after the first few sessions we can plan and develop techniques and strategies to help deal with prominent issues.
